Some counters look a bit fancyer than that, but you get the jist of it.

Using Counters on Laidback.org

The counter system has two parts to it, one is the backend server script and the other is the small command to activate the script from the html in your web page. The counter system works by using 'tags' for each counter. This way you could have a counter for different pages.

To get a counter please mail counter@laidback.org or one of the admin team. You will be given (or we will agree on a tag) and a counter will be created for you. The counter will be started at zero and will only start when the first access to the page is made. You will be notified about the creation of your counter and some examples of counter config.

All you need to do is add a chunk into your html like this ie:

<!--#include virtual="/counter/counter.cgi?tag=mytag&style=mystyle" -->

times.

where 'mytag' is a tag that is given to you. 'mystyle' is the style of the counter you wish to use (see options below). In the final page the long <!--#include ... string will be replaced by the current counter number.

Counter options

The counter on Laidback.org has a few options, mainly to do with the style of the counter. The counter can display in either normal text or with images. The normal text is just that, 7, 8 - normal text. The image option has several styles. Currently two styles exist, cartoon and digital styles.
