System Regulations
Provision of services
Services provided by Laidback Systems are regulated by the admin team to
keep Laidback Systems a non-profit, friendly, useful system. Please follow the
system rules and regulations to help keep the service available.
Service Provided
Laidback Systems will try to provide a 24hour service, but are not obliged to provide
any services. As such, Laidback Systems will not be held responsible for loss of data,
time or service due to any system outage or modifications. All users are
responsible for the maintenance and backup of their own data.
Users
Accounts are provided to selected non-profit, student or research groups,
or selected individuals. Services are either provided free of charge, or
for a small administrative fee.
Shell Accounts
Shell accounts currently have a large disk quota, making things easier for
serious users who will be using compilers, etc. Quota may differ, with the
needs of individual users being taken into account. Any problems with quota
limits can usually be resolved by emailing a system maintainer.
Packet sniffers, hacking/cracking utilities, network service programs (e.g.
logins on extra ports, mucks, muds, etc) are not allowed.
Only the person assigned an account may use it - no account sharing
allowed.
FTP and Web Space
All Laidback Systems users are assigned web space by default. Space for web pages is
taken from the shell quota (if a shell is assigned).
Users may request more web space, and will usually get it assigned. The
usage of existing space is taken into account when deciding on new quotas.
Anonymous FTP directories are available upon request, see the user help
pages for details.
Users may not host indecent or illegal material on FTP or Web space. Any
materials deemed unsuitable will be removed. Any queries about the
suitability of materials to system maintanance.
E-Mail
The email address username@laidback.org is assigned. Aliases may be assigned
in some cases. Mail forwarding may be set up.
Emails of an indecent, threatening or malicious nature may not be sent
from Laidback Systems computing services. Neither can spam, adverts or commercial
messages.
Our Responsibilities
Basically, none. We will try and offer a useful service.
Users are given no warranties. The admins of the system reserve the
right to revoke any user accounts at any time.
